XI | Knee & Ankle Liniment
TIAN DI 天地 | XI 膝
Knee and Ankle Dit Da Jow | 4 fl oz
Knee and ankle injuries are the most common presentations in any sports medicine practice. They are also the most undertreated with topicals, because practitioners reach for systemic formulas when local application is often the more direct and effective intervention. XI is built for the sinew layer: the ligaments, tendons, and joint capsule that converge at the knee and ankle, the most mechanically stressed joints in the body.
Ji Xue Teng leads at 13% as the vine Chief, nourishing and moving blood through the ligamentous sinew of the lower extremity. The vine is the classical analog for ligament, latching and holding across spaces as ligament binds bone to bone. San Qi at 11% adds the forceful blood-moving and stasis-dispersing work the Chief's gentler action does not. Mu Gua and Hai Tong Pi address the damp-bi obstruction behind the heaviness, morning stiffness, and weather-sensitive pain of chronic lower-joint patterns. Du Huo opens the lower channels alone, since the whole territory of this formula sits below the knee. Ru Xiang at 9% leads the resin cluster, moving blood in the sinew layer to ease pain. Chuan Niu Xi descends blood and conducts the formula down to the knee and ankle. Bing Pian opens the surface to carry it all in.
Indicated for: Subacute and chronic knee and ankle presentations from Day 3 onward. Ligament sprain in the post-acute and chronic stages, the post-sprain ankle that never fully resolved, chronic ligament laxity and instability, weather-sensitive knee and ankle pain, damp-bi joint stiffness and heaviness, Achilles and plantar sinew presentations, and chronic knee degeneration patterns. Begin at Day 3, transitioning from CHONG.
Application: 3 to 5 sprays to the affected joint. Massage in firmly for 3 to 5 minutes until absorbed. Two to three times daily. For damp-dominant knees and ankles, follow with a warm compress for 20 to 30 minutes, since the damp-resolving herbs work best with sustained warmth.
